Panipat, August 24
Heckled by the crowd at Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s function in Kaithal last week, Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda today described it as an attack on the pride of Haryanvis.

“The dishonour wasn’t mine. I went there as the Chief Minister representing 2.5 crore Haryanavis. They have shown disrespect to the people of Haryana,” said Hooda at party’s Vijay Sanklap rally in Panipat on Sunday.

“The people will avenge my insult by voting against them (BJP) in the Assembly polls,” he said. Hooda claimed he had received intelligence inputs that suggested there was a plan to heckle him at PM’s event. “But I ignored these reports and attended the function as I had a firm belief in the democratic system and thought that Narendra Modi would keep the dignity of the PM’s post,” said the Chief Minister.

“What was my fault? I attended the function as I was invited...it was a government event organised by the National Highway Authority of India,” he said.

At the Panipat rally, Hooda announced sops for various sections, including farmers and Dalits. He promised to hike the salary of state government employees from November 1, 2014, making it on par with their Punjab counterparts. He also announced a hike in old age and widow pensions from November 1.

Hooda said the state government would pay 4% interest on crop loan to farmers who would repay the entire amount in a stipulated period. Further, half interest on long term farm loans would be paid by the state government, he said.

Wooing weaker sections, Hooda said loans up to Rs 1.25 lakh taken by those belonging to SC and BC categories before March 31, 2013, would be waived.

Hooda said Haryana Sikhs had been struggling for years to create a separate gurdwara management committee. “We have fulfilled our promise and today HSGMC is a reality,” said Hooda. HSGMC chief Jagdish Singh Jhinda, who was present at the rally, presented a sword and a siropa to the CM.

Without naming anyone, Hooda urged voters to teach a lesson to turncoats who have left the Congress and joined other parties. He said BJP chief Amit Shah was dreaming of forming a BJP government in Haryana. “Is he planning to form the government with the help of turncoats?” asked Hooda.

Haryana Congress president Ashok Tanwar, Speaker Kuldeep Sharma and Rohtak MP Deepender Hooda asked people to vote for the Congress.
