Politicos on Judicial Appointment Commission Bill
New Delhi, Aug 13 (ANI):
The government's move to scrap the previous Bill on judicial appointments and introduce a new one in the Lok Sabha got mixed reactions from various political parties. Union Law minister Ravi Shankar Prasad, on Monday, tabled the Judicial Appointments Commission Bill in the Lok Sabha and which is set to replace the existing collegium system. Prasad had told the Parliament the government was keen to set up a committee to appoint judges in the wake of allegations of judicial corruption.



former Hockey players hail prospects of conferring Bharat Ratna on Dhyan Chand
Bhopal/ Ludhiana/ New Delhi, Aug 13 (ANI):
India’s former hockey players have hailed prospects of conferring the country’s highest civilian award, Bharat Ratna, to the sports wizard Major Dhyan Chand. Former Olympian Aslam Sher Khan, whose father was also a hockey player and a teammate of Dhyan Chand in the Berlin Olympics-1936, said the hockey wizard should be the first choice among sportspersons for the highest civilian honour.



Muzaffarnagar organizes marathon to spread communal harmony
Muzaffarnagar, Aug 13 (ANI):
In a bid to unite people from all faiths in riot-hit Muzaffarnagar of Uttar Pradesh, a marathon was organised on Tuesday to spread the message of peace and communal harmony. Muzaffarnagar is a flashpoint in Uttar Pradesh, where some 60 persons were killed in Hindu-Muslim riots last year. The marathon saw participation of around 4,000 children, along with journalists, police officials, and members of various women and civil society organisations. The event concluded with a cultural function featuring Independence Day-themed programmes. The five-kilometre marathon is an annual event and was organised for the third time in a row. An activist, Satyaprakash Reshu, said the marathon would cross all religious institutions with religious heads taking part in it.
