Floods in Odisha kill 37, water level of flooded river recedes
Bargarh, Aug 10 (ANI):
Officials in Odisha said the water level of flooded Mahanadi river had receded even though the death toll reached 37. The flood situation in Bargarh district remained grim as the back water of Hirakud dam entered five villages. The district administration had evacuated 1300 persons from these villages. Special Relief Commissioner Pradipta Mahapatra said there would be very little rainfall in catchment area of Mahanadi river and they had reduced the number of gates to 24 in the reservoir. People had died in Odisha since rivers burst their banks, inundating villages and farmland and forcing around 60,000 persons to seek refuge in relief camps. Mahapatra also added 37 persons had died due to floods and free kitchen service was being provided to people in the relief camps.



Fifteen killed in encounter between two Maoist groups in Jharkhand
Palamu, Aug 10 (ANI):
Fifteen persons were killed in an encounter between two rival Maoist groups in Palamu district of Jharkhand. The outfits were Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-M) and a group that splintered itself from the party, Tritiya Prastuti Committee (TPC). Members of the CPI-M were allegedly angry regarding a previous incident, wherein their party members had been killed by the TPC and wanted to take revenge regarding the same. The incident took place at Koudia village under Vishrampur police station limits, when the TPC members were resting at a villager Ramchandra Sav’s residence. The CPI-M members came and killed them.



Widows, schoolchildren visit 7RCR to tie rakhi to PM
New Delhi, Aug 10 (ANI):
Widows from Vrindavan and school-going children were among those who landed at the Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 7 Race Course Road residence today to tie rakhis to the PM. Earlier today, Prime Minister Narendra Modi greeted the people for Rakshabandhan, which is being celebrated across the country today.



President Pranab Mukherjee celebrates Rakshabandhan
New Delhi, Aug 10 (ANI):
President Pranab Mukherjee today celebrated Rakshabandhan with children. Children of all age groups were present at the Rashtrapati Bhawan to tie Rakhi on Mukherjee’s wrist. They received gifts and chocholate from the President. Earlier on Saturday, in his message, Prsident Mukherjee extended his warm greetings and good wishes to the citizens of the country and abroad, saying, "The festival of Rakhi spreads harmony and celebrates brotherhood. Rakhi is a sacred thread of protection embellished with the affection of a sister for her brother. It symbolises the inseparable bond of love between brothers and sisters."
