Customs official’s wife shot at in Gurgaon

Gurgaon, July 28
A 50-year-old woman, wife of a customs official, was shot at by three masked men at her house in Sector 31 here today. She was taken to a hospital where her condition was stated to be critical.

The injured has been identified as Savitri, wife of Birju Ram Mahayach, Joint Commissioner, Customs, posted in Bihar. She was alone at her house at the time of the incident.

In her statement to the police, Savitri blamed her brother-in-law’s son for the attack. The police have lodged an FIR and are conducting raids in Bahadurgarh, the native place of the accused. The police said three masked robbers entered Savitri’s house and asked her for valuables. When she resisted, the suspects shot at her and fled.

Savitri’s neighbours, who heard the gunshot, informed the police and her husband, who was in the city. She was rushed to Paras Hospital. “The accused did not take away valuables. The motive is not clear. It may be related to her husband’s profession or personal enmity. She has named her nephew. We have formed special teams and raids are on to nab the accused,” said a police officer.
