Central intervention unlikely now Chandigarh, July 28 Earlier, it was reported that newly appointed Haryana Governor Kaptan Singh Solanki might intervene in the separate gurdwara management body row. A day before taking oath as the Governor, he had said the Haryana Government should have adhered to the Centre’s directive that the Governor must be asked to withdraw his assent to the legislation paving the way for the formation of the Haryana Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee. Former Advocate General of Punjab RS Cheema said: “As the matter has now become sub judice, intervention at the level of any other constitutional authority will be uncalled for.” There were reports that the Central Government may go in for a Presidential reference on the HSGMC.As of now, the HSGMC has the legal backing and under the Haryana Act to manage gudwaras in the state covered under the Act. Sources said nothing big is expected on the HSGMC before the formation of the next Assembly in Haryana. In Punjab also, the SAD has started preparing for the byelections scheduled for August 21. If the BJP forms the next government in Haryana, Punjab CM Parkash Singh Badal could build pressure on it to undo the HSGMC. If the INLD is voted to power, Badal, who is close to the Chautalas, can ask them to scrap the Haryana gurdwara management committee. Sources say if the Congress retains power in Haryana, the SAD will have to fight a legal battle on HSGMC.
