Saharanpur, July 27
The authorities did not allow curfew relaxation in the town on the second day today. Barring a stone-throwing incident, no violence was reported from anywhere in the town during the day.

The number of those injured in the clashes has gone up to 33. As many as nine FIRs have been registered and 38 persons arrested for violence in the Uttar Pradesh town.

Police sources said a mob attempted to loot a wine shop in an area under City Kotwali. When the police arrived at the spot, they started hurling stones on the police. The police had to resort to cane charge to disperse them.

Three persons were killed and 24 others injured as communal clashes broke out over the construction of a hall at a religious place on Saturday. Mobs went on rampage, looting shops and setting them on fire. The entire town has been turned into a police cantonment. All the markets of the town remained closed due to the curfew restrictions. People did not venture out as shoot-on-sight orders were in place. The curfew has led the scarcity of essential commodities.

There was no supply of milk, vegetables, bread and other essential items. Inter-state buses remained off the road for the second day.

District Magistrate Sandhya Tiwari said nine FIRs had been registered and 38 persons arrested for their involvement in the violence. As many as 22 shops belonging to one community were set on fire.
