Chandigarh, July 27
Veteran BJP leader Kaptan Singh Solanki was sworn in as the 16th Haryana Governor today.

stice Ashutosh Mohunta, acting Chief Justice of Punjab and Haryana High Court, administered the oath of office to the leader at Raj Bhavan. Solanki took the oath in Hindi in the presence of Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda.

Solanki evaded answering questions related to the row over formation of the Haryana Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (HSGMC). “This is not the occasion to talk about it,” he said.

During his interaction with the media in Delhi yesterday, he had said that Haryana should abide by the Centre’s directive on the issue and that he would take an appropriate action after getting the HSGMC issue reviewed.

He had clarified that these were his personal observations and not as the Governor-designate.

During brief interaction with the media, where Hooda was also present, Solanki preferred to stay quiet on the issue, but said: “I am aware of my constitutional responsibilities,” hinting that he would review the issue once he settled down.

Meanwhile, in a snide remark on the media, Hooda said: “Yeh hi reh gaya hai inke paas (the media has only one question to ask).”

However, the Governor congratulated the people of Haryana for progressing well and said he hoped Haryana would play an important role in taking India forward on the path of progress. Besides Hooda, his Cabinet colleagues, judges of the Punjab and Haryana High Court, senior officers of Haryana, Punjab and Chandigarh attended the swearing-in ceremony. His wife Rani Solanki was given a warm welcome by those present.
