Green Brigade plants over one lakh trees in Ludhiana
Ludhiana, July 22 (ANI):
People in Punjab planted 1.25 lakh trees in an attempt to provide green lungs to Ludhiana city and also to make a new world record. According to a report by World Health Organisation (WHO), Ludhiana was among the top ten polluted cities in the world. In a bid to make Ludhiana a green city, a non-governmental organisation, ‘Sambhav’, a youth leadership training organisation, urged people to plant trees. One of the participants Davinder Singh Pal claimed to have broken a world record. The event also witnessed participation of Indian Institute of Architects, Ludhiana Chapter (IIA-LC), along with city’s Mayor. Organisers gave free saplings, tools and assistance in order to evoke more public involvement.



Dalai Lama terms Israel-Gaza violence unthinkable, sad
Dharamsala, July 22 (ANI):
Tibetan spiritual leader the Dalai Lama has said the ongoing crisis in Israel and Gaza was very sad and totally opposite to what their religion promotes. Israeli forces killed 10 Palestinian militants, who slipped across the border from Gaza through hidden tunnels on Monday, the military said, as the death toll from the two-week conflict passed 500 amid growing international calls for an end. Non-stop attacks lifted the Palestinian death toll to 496, including almost 100 children, since fighting started on July 08. Israel said 18 of its soldiers had also died along with two civilians. While addressing mediapersons at Kangra domestic airport in Dharamsala, Himachal Pradesh, Dalai Lama said he had not expected such sort of violence and misbehavior from people who claimed to have faith in religious principles.



MH17 black boxes handed over to Malaysia
New Delhi, July 22 (ANI):
Pro-Russian rebels in Ukraine have handed over the two 'black box' recorders from Flight MH17, shot down over Ukraine, to Malaysian officials. A leader of the Pro-Russian separatists, who controls the area where the plane came down, formally presented them early today. Aleksander Borodai handed them over after lengthy negotiations with Malaysia, whose officials thanked him for doing so. The Malaysian Airlines plane went down in an area of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic on Thursday. All 298 passengers and crew on board were killed.
