SGPC Chief Avtar Singh Makkar on Haryana SGPC issue Ludhiana, July 19 (ANI): Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) Chief Avtar Singh Makkar on Saturday condemned the Haryana government’s decision to create an independent committee to monitor Sikh temples in the state. He said that the decision by the Haryana government was wrong and unconstitutional, and the fact that the resolution was passed as a money bill meant that the government is taking control over the Gurudwaras. He urged the central government to intervene and look into the matter.
Politicos condemn grisly rape case in UP, demand strict action against culprits New Delhi/ Lucknow, July 19 (ANI): Politicos on Saturday condemned the rape case in UP that has shocked the country again by its brutality and demanded strict action against the culprits. Police identified the Mohanlalganj gang rape and murder victim on Friday and claimed that she was subjected to cruelty as a result of extreme hate. The suspect is a person known to the woman who took her out on Wednesday night after which her body was found on Thursday morning, police said.
Public anger mounts against rape of child in a Bangalore school, police assures swift action Bangalore, July 19 (ANI): As public anger mounts against the rape of a six- year- old girl within school premises, the Police commissioner of Bangalore told mediapersons that the probe is on and the accused will soon be nabbed. Tension erupted as two staff members allegedly raped a six-year-old girl on the premises of a prominent school. He added that no laxity in the case will be tolerated and the department was working systematically to arrest the accused. Parents assembled on the school premises and staged a protest, accusing the school authority of inaction.
Meanwhile, Karnataka Home Minister K George addressed mediapersons and said measures are being taken to ensure the safety of women in the city.
Indian sand artist depicts Ukraine airline crash as ‘shame to humanity’ through art Bhubaneswar, July 19 (ANI): Famed sand artist, Sudarsan Pattnaik, created a sand sculpture at Puri Beach to show that the nation condemns the shooting of an airliner at Ukraine killing all 298 passengers on board. Pattnaik created the art with six tons of sand. The Boeing 777, on a flight from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur, came down in the Donetsk region of Ukraine, near the Russian border, on Thursday (July 17).
Congress ready for elections: Rashid Alvi New Delhi, July 19 (ANI): Congress leader Rashid Alvi has said that the party is ready for fresh elections in Delhi. Delhi has been under President's rule since February when Kejriwal resigned from the post of chief minister after his 49-day-old government failed to table its Jan Lokpal Bill in the state assembly. The Assembly has been under suspended animation ever since and no party has staked claim to form the government.
Sabyasachi Panda sent to ten days of police custody Bhubaneswar, July 19 (ANI): Court has sent India’s top Maoist leader, Sabyasachi Panda to ten days of police custody after his arrest in Odisha. Panda was produced in front of the Sub-Divisional Judicial Magistrate (SDJM) of Berhampur amid tight security on Friday evening where he was ordered to be sent on 10-day police custody. Acting on intelligence information, a police team nabbed the 48-year-old fugitive rebel leader after raiding a hideout at Berhampur in Odisha's Ganjam district. Police recovered huge cache of arms and ammunition from his possession. Police informed that Panda is accused of several heinous crimes, including the murder of a Vishwa Hindu Parishad leader, Swami Laxmanananda Saraswati, in 2008 and abduction of two Italians in 2012.
Tea workers in Tripura imparted skill development training to boost production Tripura, July 19 (ANI): The northeast region is one of the main producers of tea in the country. In order to give a boost to the tea industry in Tripura, a training scheme for skill development of the tea workers was launched recently. Implemented by the National Skill Development Corporation through its various training partners, it aims to provide scientific knowledge to the traditional tea growers as well as to those interested in joining this sector. The one-month long training programme imparts skills on various aspects of growing tea, including the preparation of nurseries, choosing saplings, use of fertilizers and maximizing the yield. Upon completing the training, the trainees will be awarded with a certificate from the government and National Skill Development Corporation, along with a monetary reward. The scheme is a part of Standard Training Assessment and Rewards (STAR) and was launched by the government last year to encourage people to acquire skills for different job roles. The programme is expected to benefit over 10000 small tea growers of the state.
