Ahead of polls, Hooda hikes ex gratia for bravehearts
Cabinet relief for Haryana residents in high toll rates
Tribune News Service

Chandigarh, July 12
A day after the Haryana Assembly passed a Bill paving the way for the creation of a separate Haryana Shirmomani Gurudwara Parbandhak Committee (HSGPC), the Bhupinder Singh Hooda-led Congress government today announced a slew of sops in the run-up to the Assembly elections.

A meeting of the Haryana Cabinet, presided over by Hooda, announced several ‘pro-people’ decisions, including a policy to provide relief to the Haryana residents in the high toll rates, hefty increase in the ex gratia to families of the central paramilitary forces personnel killed/disabled in military operations, Class I status for the government doctors and new job scheme for sportspersons.

Hooda, however, disagreed with a query that these decisions had been taken with an eye on the elections, claiming that every decision was not taken with electoral considerations in a welfare state.

Now, 50 per cent subsidy would be given for monthly passes for four tolls under the 2008 Toll Policy in the districts Panipat, Rohtak, Jhajjar and Rewari for Light Commercial Vehicle (LCVs), including maxi cabs or jeeps, buses and JCBs, owned by residents within a radial distance of 30 km from toll plaza. The policy also provides concession up to 75 per cent to car and jeep owners residing in a radial distance of 35 km of any of the four toll plazas at Makrauli KaIan, Dahar, Gangaycha Jat and Dighal. Besides, the monthly pass holder for one toll plaza will be allowed to cross any of the other three toll plazas, by paying a toll of Rs 10 for each trip.

For the toll plaza at Palwal, 75 per cent subsidy will be given to car and jeep owners residing within a distance of 20 km of the toll plaza.
