Rly Minister gifts 8 new trains to home state K’taka

Karnataka, the home state of Railway Minister DV Sadananda Gowda, got eight news trains, including one premium, four express and three passenger, in the maiden budget he presented in the Lok Sabha today.

Among the express trains, the Bangalore-Mangalore train will operate daily, while the Bangalore-Shimoga train will run twice a week. Express trains from Bangalore to Tatanagar in Jamshedpur and from Bidar to Mumbai will chug once in a week.

The Bangalore-Tatanagar Express will operate from the new railway station at Baiyyappanahali in the city’s eastern suburb.

The premium express train will run from Bangalore to Kamakhya near Guwahati in Assam passing through Andhra Pradesh, Odisha and West Bengal en route.

Gowda, who represents the Bangalore North parliamentary constituency, did not include Karnataka in the list of new five Jansadharan trains and seven AC Express trains he announced for other cities/states across the country. The three daily passenger trains will run from Yesvantpur in Bangalore north to Tumkur, Byndoor (near the coastal pilgrim town of Udupi) to Kasaragod in north Kerala and Dharwad to Dandeli in north Karnataka. The Byndoor – Kasaragod train has been introduced.

Three pairs of MEMU (mainline electric multiple unit) will run from Bangalore to Ramanagaram in the old Mysore region six days in a week except Sunday.

A daily DEMU (diesel multiple unit) will run from Banagalore to Neelmangala in Bangalore rural district and from Yesvantpur to Hosur across Karnataka border in Tamil Nadu six days in a week except Sunday. One tourist train will run from Gadag to Pandarpur via Bagalkot, Bijapur and Solapur.
