Yamunanagar, June 28
An 18-year-old girl was allegedly set on fire by a group of youths after her family objected to one of them playing loud music at Milak Khas village under Bilaspur sub-division yesterday.

The girl suffered more than 80 per cent burns and has been referred to the PGI in Chandigarh.

In his complaint to the police, girl’s father Suresh Kumar alleged that Amardeep of his village used to park his vehicle in front of his house and play loud music. Suresh repeatedly requested him not to do so, but to no avail.

The girl’s father then approached the village sarpanch, who asked Amardeep to stop parking his vehicle in front of Suresh’s house.

Amardeep along with one of his accomplices, Gulaba, made several rounds of his house on a motorbike yesterday, which led to an argument between the two youths and Suresh and his nephew Dhiraj. Villagers intervened to pacify the two sides.

Suresh alleged that Amardeep along with 10 others returned to his house on Friday night and pelted it with stones. They then scaled the outer wall of the house.

The accused allegedly poured kerosene on Suresh’s daughter, who was sleeping in the forecourt, and set her on fire.

The police have registered a case against 11 youths.
