Shimla, June 27
The Himachal Pradesh Government has sought permission from the Union Home Ministry to initiate disciplinary action against former Director General of Police (DGP) DS Manhas.

During his tenure as the Union Steel Minister in 2010, Manhas had allegedly got a bugging device fixed in the room of Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh.

As per law, the state government has to take permission from the Centre before initiating disciplinary action against any officer who has retired in the past four years.

Manhas, who became the DGP in July 2010 during the BJP tenure, retired from the service in 2012 and is currently serving as the Chief Security Adviser at the headquarters of a religious sect in Amritsar.

It is still unclear as to what disciplinary action the government will take but the move could affect Manhas’s pension and gratuity benefits.
