Amit Shah all set to be new BJP president

New Delhi, June 26
BJP general secretary Amit Shah appears all set to be the new BJP president. Sources say a formal announcement is likely “soon” (around July 1). The decision has been taken in consultation with the RSS, say sources.

Other contenders for the post included senior leaders JP Nadda and Om Mathur.

Shah played a major role in the BJP’s impressive win in the recently concluded Lok Sabha elections. He has been particularly appreciated for scripting the BJP’s spectacular victory in Uttar Pradesh — which both the BJP and the RSS wanted to officially recognise.

The main objection against Shah was if he becomes the president, both the Prime Minister and the party chief would be from Gujarat.
