Himachal Pradesh tragedy: 5 bodies found, 4 arrive in Hyderabad Hyderabad, June 10 (ANI): The bodies of four of the 24 students swept away on Sunday in a sudden surge of water released from a dam in Himachal Pradesh, arrived in Hyderabad city airport on Monday night. TDP leader Prathipati Pulla Rao said that the party leaders have spoken to the Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh and will provide moral support to the parents. Rao added that four bodies have arrived at the airport and the bodies will be handed over to the parents immediately.
Monsoon rains seen below average: Jitendra Singh New Delhi, June 10 (ANI): Earth Sciences Minister Jitendra Singh said that the monsoon is expected to bring below-average rainfall this year, potentially lowering grain yields, pushing up food prices and hurting the economy. Singh expects precipitation between June and September to be between 90 and 96 percent of the long-term average. Singh added that rainfall in July was seen at 93 percent of the long-term average, rising to 96 percent during August.
Decline of insurgency paves way for the revival of tea industry in Tripura Tripura, June 10 (ANI): Manu Valley Tea Estate in North Tripura is witnessing a boom. A few years ago, it was one among the many tea gardens in Tripura, which were on the verge of closing down due to rampant incidents of kidnapping and extortion by militant outfits. Plucking activities were almost ended in most of the estates as workers had left the area out of fear of the militants. However, with the decline in insurgency, the tea gardens have resumed production. The workers are happy to return to their traditional activities and earn a good livelihood. The tea industry in Tripura directly employs around 20,000 families. With the improvement in security situation, many small tea growers have started back to business. Tripura produces around 90 lakh kilograms of green tea annually and it aims to double the production in the next 5 years.
Union Home Ministry reviews the progress of Bezbaruah committee for Northeast people New Delhi, June 10 (ANI): The newly appointed Minister of State for Home Affairs Kiren Rijiju reviewed the work of 6-member committee led by MP Bezbaruah and has sought an interim report by July this year. The committee comprising of retired IAS officers, student leaders and representatives from the northeastern states is looking into the concerns of the northeastern people residing across the country. The committee is interacting with students, professionals and various persons from Northeastern states living in metro cities across the country and seek their suggestions.
