Bhaini Kalan (Karnal), May 21
In a case of suspected honour killing, Manoj Kumar (21) and Kiran (19), both residents of Bhaini Kalan village, near Karnal, were allegedly killed and cremated by their parents last night.

Manoj, who was already married, had an affair with Kiran. They were planning to get married. Their parents were against it as both of them belonged to the same community. The incident came to light when somebody informed the Tarori police about the murders and cremation of Manoj and Kiran this morning. When DSP Indri Baljinder Singh and SHO Tarori Nasib Singh reached there, both bodies had been already cremated.

Forensic experts visited houses of the deceased and the place where they were allegedly cremated. They collected some evidence.

A case has been registered against five persons—Kiran’s father Randhir Singh, Manoj’s father Jawala Singh and brothers Sandeep, Rajesh and Dharambir—under Sections 302, 201 and 120-B of the IPC. The accused were detained by the police for investigation.

Villagers were tightlipped about the incident. Sources said Manoj and Kiran went missing from their houses yesterday. They were traced and brought back by their family members. Members of both families reportedly took the extreme step to save their honour in the village, sources said.
