Sukhbir tells DSGMC chief to probe incident

Chandigarh, May 15
Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president and deputy chief minister Sukhbir Singh Badal today condemned the burning of “Nishan Sahib” on a gurdwara premises in the Kishanbagh area of Hyderabad yesterday.

In a statement here, the SAD president said he had requested Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) president Manjit Singh GK to lead a delegation to the gurdwara site in Hyderabad immediately to conduct an investigation into the incident.

He said the DSGMC president would also interact with the Sikh community during his visit to Hyderabad and assure its members that SAD not only stood by them but would also work to punish the perpetrators of this ghastly act.

The SAD president also requested the Andhra Pradesh Government to take strong and decisive action in the case besides taking steps to safeguard all gurdwara premises in Andhra Pradesh. He also requested the Andhra Pradesh Government to ensure the safety of the life and property of the Sikhs living there.

SGPC team leaves for Hyderabad

Punjab Shahi Imam appeals for peace

Ludhiana: Maulana Habib-ur-Rehman, Shahi Imam, Punjab, has appealed for peace in the wake of clashes between members of two communities in Hyderabad on Wednesday. Addressing a news conference here on Thursday, he condemned the mischievous elements responsible for the communal tension. The shahi imam, who had spoken on the phone to Asaduddin Owaisi, the Hyderabad MP and president of the All-India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen, said the state governments as well as the Centre ought to ensure that minorities were safe in all parts of the country and miscreants attempting to disturb peace were dealt with sternly. — OC
