Gurgaon, May 13
Following continuous allegations and complaints of rigging, the Election Commission today ordered re-polling in eight booths of Mewat. In a letter addressed to the district administration, the commission has asked it to make arrangements for conducting polls in these booths again on May 15.

The commission took the decision taking into account reports from the returning officer regarding complaints filed by various candidates highlighting rigging and unusually high voter percentage in Mewat. The polling will be conducted again in one station each in Sohna and Punhana and three each in Nuh and Firozpur Jhirka. The administration has started making arrangements for the same.

"The polling shall be conducted in accordance with the directives of the election commission and we are making arrangements for that," said a spokesperson.

Aam Aadmi Party was the first to make complaints and re-emphasise these yesterday. The party, however, is not happy with the EC decision ordering repoll.

"It is a delayed and token acknowledgement of rampant electoral malpractises in Mewat and we are thankful for the same. The fact that the Election Commission agreed to conduct polls in these centres again proves that what we said was right. We are, however, not satisfied. We had raised objections on 110 polling stations and given ample proof so that the repolling should be ordered there. We will try to push for that because only then will we be able to nullify what went wrong", said AAP candidate Yogendra Yadav.

AAP had moved the EC highlighting what went wrong at 110 polling stations providing audio visual proof. The BSP, the BJP and AAP had also raised objections and highlighted rigging in the elections.

Against norms: INLD

"It has been a month since these false complaints were filed. The local authorities have always maintained that the elections in Mewat were as per law and peaceful. Now when just two days are left for counting, this sudden repolling is against all laws and norms"

Zakir Hussain, INLD candidate
