Dehradun, May 11
The Kedarnath yatra has been halted till tomorrow evening due to bad weather conditions in Garhwal hills. State Disaster Management officials said the Kedarnath yatra would now resume after the review of weather conditions tomorrow evening.

The yatra was halted after the Meteorological Department forecast moderate rain and thunderstorm at many places in Rudraprayag, Uttarkashi and Chamoli districts of the state in next 48 hours. Meteorological Department, Dehradun, Executive Director Dr Anand Sharma said higher reaches of Kedarnath and Badrinath were likely to receive snowfall. Hail and squall could also take place at isolated places in the state.

Rudraprayag Superintendent of Police Baljinder Singh said the Kedarnath yatra was halted during morning hours today after they received the warning on weather. “The decision on resuming the yatra will be taken after reviewing the weather conditions tomorrow evening”, he added.

Singh further said all pilgrims were safe and at secure places. The pilgrims at the Kedarnath shrine have also come back as precautionary measure. Meanwhile, the registration of new pilgrims has been stopped at Rishikesh, the starting point of yatra.

The Kedarnath Dham yatra started after the portals of the Kedarnath shrine were reopened on May 4.
