Flash-flood grips low-lying areas of Tripura
Dhalai, May 10 (ANI):
Heavy downpour triggered flash flood in low-lying areas in and around Kamalpur in Dhalai district of Tripura, leaving hundreds of people marooned and spoiling standing crops. Road communications with capital Agartala were cut off due to rain water resulting in harassment of passengers. With no rainfall, there was a drought-like situation in Tripura a few days back, which still continues in many parts. The sudden flash flood added to the misery of the people of Kamalpur area. Make-shift relief camps have been set up for the flood victims in various schools of the area. The flood has also caused extensive damage to standing crops as flood water submerged vast areas of the farmland. A huge area by the riverside has been washed away along with the crops.



Special EC observer for Varanasi; politicos react
New Delhi, May 10 (ANI):
The Election Commission has appointed a special observer to oversee polling in Varanasi constituency, from where BJP’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi is contesting the Lok Sabha elections. The commission has appointed IAS officer Pravin Kumar of Tamil Nadu to ensure free and fair polling in the constituency. The decision came after the BJP had accused Varanasi District Magistrate Pranjal Yadav, who had declined permission to Modi for holding a rally in the constituency, of partisanship. The Varanasi constituency will go to polls in the last phase of the Lok Sabha elections on May 12.



Campaigning for last phase of LS polls to end today
New Delhi, May 10 (ANI):
Campaigning will end this evening for 41 Parliamentary constituencies spread across three states, which will go to polls on Monday in the ninth and final phase of the Lok Sabha elections. Out of the constituencies going to polls, six are in Bihar, 18 in Uttar Pradesh and 17 in West Bengal. The ninth phase of the polls will see a battle between Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief Arvind Kejriwal, both of whom are contesting the elections from Varanasi constituency. The campaigning will end at 6 pm.



Congress practices secularism, will check spread of hatred: Sonia 
Valmikinagar, May 10 (ANI):
Congress chief Sonia Gandhi said her ruling Congress party practised secularism and would check spread of hatred. She also accused the main opposition, the BJP, and its parent body, the RSS, for spreading hatred among communities to acquire political power. Gandhi said the Congress would not allow such a design to succeed.
