Amritsar, May 10
A day after a local court issued bailable warrants against Local Bodies Minister Anil Joshi in the dual-vote row, one of the complainants in the case, Vaneet Mahajan, faced a murderous attack while the other complainant, Sandeep Gorsi, along with Congress councillor Gurinder Rishi, was booked in an attempt-to-murder case.

Incidentally, Mahajan was attacked in broad daylight by a group of unidentified men just a few minutes after he held a press conference against the “false case” registered against Gorsi and Rishi. He was heading towards the railway station when several armed men travelling in three cars intercepted his car on the Court Road and attacked him and his younger brother Avneesh with sharp-edged weapons. Both of them were rushed to a private hospital. Mahajan claimed that the assailants had threatened to teach them a lesson for filing a complaint against the minister.

Earlier, the Civil Lines police late last night registered an attempt-to-murder case against Gorsi following a complaint by Rakesh Bhardwaj, who is the personal assistant of Cabinet Minister Joshi. Bhardwaj told the police that he, along with his friend Vishal, had gone to Ranjit Avenue where Vishal had a clash with Gorsi and Rishi.

He alleged that the two Congress leaders tried to run him over with an intention to kill him. He claimed he sustained injuries on his arm.

However, during his press conference today, Mahajan alleged that the case was registered at the behest of Joshi and that the police officials were acting as his puppet.
