13 die as train rams into vehicle

Lucknow, May 9
Thirteen persons were killed late last night when a passenger train hit a Bolero SUV at an unmanned level-crossing in Uttar Pradesh. Three persons were critically injured in the accident that took place at Horilapur village of Maharajganj district.

The Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV), full of passengers returning from a marriage function, was crossing an unmanned level-crossing at Narkatiya when the passenger train hit the vehicle, smashing it into pieces.

Thirteen persons were killed on the spot and the rescue workers had to work hard to remove bodies from the mangled remains of the SUV. The critically injured have been admitted to a hospital.

The traffic on the rail route remained disrupted for several hours after the accident. — IANS
