Woman moves SC against ‘snoop’ probe
Legal Correspondent

New Delhi, May 6
The woman, who was placed under surveillance allegedly at the behest of the Narendra Modi government in Gujarat, today approached the Supreme Court pleading for restraining both the Centre and the state from holding any probe in order to protect her privacy and reputation and of her family members.

The court issued notice to the Centre and the state directing them to respond to the plea within two days.

The Bench, however, declined the plea for an immediate stay to prevent the two governments from going ahead on the issue. The Gujarat government has already ordered a probe, while the Centre was also planning a parallel investigation.

In the petition filed jointly by her and her father, they contended that the surveillance was put in place at their instance in view of the “threat” faced by them at the relevant time and as such they did not approve of any inquiry into the issue, either by the Centre or the state.
