Gandhi’s version of attack
Tribune News Service

Patiala, May 1
AAP’s Patiala candidate today narrated his version of the attack by SAD councillor on him. He claimed around 10 am, his party worker Satish Kumar, who was serving water to polling agents at booth No. 25 (Alipur Araiyan), was slapped by Rajinder Singh Virk. Virk ordered his henchmen to drag him (Satish) out of the complex and beat him up.

He informed the Returning Officer and the Observer. Threatening AAP workers of dire consequences after the elections, Akali workers fled scene. DSP and the Central Observer then visited the polling station, but took no action against Virk and his men, he claimed.

Around 2 pm, Virk visited various polling stations and allegedly threatened AAP workers, besides indulging in violence, bogus voting and booth capturing. Complaints were lodged, but the administration and the police failed to step in, he said. Around 4 pm, Virk reached Rasoolpur Saidan and entered the polling booth. He captured the main unit of the EVM, while some Akali workers captured the voting unit, and cast bogus votes, he claimed.

“I reached there and pleaded with them to stop the illegal activity. Rajinder Singh attacked me. He punched me in the head, face and chest. He said he would kill me, if I tried to stop them.”

Other Akali workers also attacked me and my security staff. I fell on the ground, but they continued to kick me repeatedly.
