Bathinda, April 28
SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal today said the Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi’s speeches at Bathinda and Faridkot during the day were “bundles of lies”.

He said Rahul’s claim that Punjab farmers had benefitted due to a loan-waiver scheme of the Centre and that the Congress had increased the MSP of various commodities by 13 times was a white lie.

“In fact, only 2 per cent of the total loan-waiver benefits could be availed by Punjab farmers because norms were fixed to exclude state farmers. The price of inputs, including fertilisers and diesel have increased manifold, making the MSP increase negligible,” he added. Even the labourers in Punjab had not benefitted from the MNREGA initiative, he said.

“Here again, we were discriminated against while fixing of norms,” he said. “Labourers in Haryana, which has a Congress government, get a daily wage of Rs 236 under the scheme, while Punjab labourers get only Rs 200 per day,” he said.

On Rahul’s questioning the state government’s efforts to deal with drug smuggling from Pakistan, he said, “No one seems to have told Rahul Baba that against 100 kg of heroin seized in 2011, the seizures went up to 415 kg in 2013. We are following a zero-tolerance policy towards drugs.”
