Sopore residents torch Lashkar operative’s house

Baramulla, April 19
Residents of Sopore town in north Kashmir set the house of a suspected Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) operative on fire after he along with some of his associates tried to kidnap a girl. This is the first such incident in Kashmir since the eruption of militancy.

The police said they arrested LeT militant Imran Ahmad Jagroo, a resident of Nowpora locality in Sopore, after he tried to kidnap a girl at gunpoint. "The police received information that some unknown gunmen had entered the house of Ghulam Mohi-ud-din War, a resident of Nowpora Kalan, with an intent to kidnap his daughter.

“A joint team of the police, CRPF and Army reached the spot and found one of the intruders overpowered by the occupants," a police spokesperson said.

"The team later raided Jagroo’s house, a suspected LeT militant, and apprehended him. An AK-47 and other ammunition were seized from him. Two of his accomplices fled and a search is on to arrest them," he said. "The identity of those absconding has been established," he said.

An angry mob marched towards Jagroo's house and set it afire this morning.

"The house was partially damaged and the two cars inside his residential compound were damaged," a source said. — OC
