India votes on biggest polling day
Udhampur/ Darjeeling/ Maharashtra, April 17 (ANI):
India kicked off the biggest day of its mammoth general elections today with a quarter of its 815 million voters heading for polls in states ranging from Jammu and Kashmir to Uttar Pradesh and Bangalore in Karnataka. Security has been beefed up and paramilitary forces have been deployed as voting will begin in states like the militancy-affected Jammu and Kashmir, recently riot-hit state of Uttar Pradesh, the Maoist-inflicted states and the North-East.



LS Polls: Political heavyweights cast vote
Shivpuri/Bangalore/Bhopal, April 17 (ANI):
Political bigwigs like Sushma Swaraj, Venkaiah Naidu, Ananth Kumar, Nandan Nilekani, Jyotiraditya Scindia went to cast their votes in the fifth phase of the 2014 Lok Sabha elections today. In Bangalore, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders
Venkaiah Naidu and Ananth Kumar exercised their franchise with their supporters in tow. Naidu said the BJP would form government in the Centre and Narendra Modi would become Prime Minister. Congress candidate Jyotiraditya Scindia took the opportunity to mock the BJP.



Admiral Dhowan appointed as new Navy chief
New Delhi, April 17 (ANI):
Admiral RK Dhowan was appointed as new Chief of Naval Staff today. After dithering for over 50 days following Admiral DK Joshi's sudden resignation on February 26, owning "moral responsibility" for a string of warship mishaps, the government finally moved swiftly today to appoint Admiral Robin Dhowan as the new chief. Vice Admiral Dhowan was set to retire from the Indian Navy on May 31 this year. However, it was decided he would be serving the Indian Navy for an additional tenure of two years.
