Manpreet gets Cong stamp for Bathinda
Tribune News Service

New Delhi, April 5
The Congress today declared People’s Party of Punjab (PPP) chief Manpreet Singh Badal as its official candidate from Bathinda parliamentary constituency, formalising the pre-poll alliance between the two outfits.

Manpreet, who had agreed to contest on the Congress symbol, officially communicated his decision to the party leadership yesterday. Manpreet is pitted against incumbent MP and sister-in-law Harsimrat Kaur, who is the wife of Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal. Manpreet’s decision paves the way for future merger of the PPP with the Congress.

Party general secretary in charge of Punjab Shakeel Ahmed said: “A leader can contest elections on the symbol of another party even without merging his own party with that outfit. On merger issue, Manpreet has to take a final call. So far, there is no merger.”
