Shimla, April 3
Acting on the directions of the Home Department, the Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau today filed a case against retired Director General of Police DS Manhas and his wife in a case pertaining to alleged violations committed by the two in the construction of their house in the state capital.

The Home Department had last week directed the Vigilance Bureau to register an FIR against Manhas for alleged violations in the construction of his house located on the Forest Road near St Bede's College.

As his wife, Dr Anju Manhas, is a co-owner, the case has been registered against her as well under Section 120-B and 13 (A) of the Prevention of Corruption Act and Section 352 of the Municipal Corporation Act.

Manhas has been accused of misusing his position while in service. The inquiry against Manhas, who was the DGP of the state during the BJP regime and retired in August 2012, was ordered on the basis of a complaint filed in September 2013. He has been accused of serious violations including construction of an additional storey, basement and wrongfully obtaining the completion report.
