Chandigarh, April 2
Three block-level officers of Gurgaon were arrested after the Election Department got cases registered against them on the charge of making bogus votes.

District Election Officer Shekhar Vidyarthi recommended the registration of FIRs against Ashok Kumar, Karan Singh and Mahesh Kumar, block-level officers of booths number 83 (Laxman Vihar), 86 (Laxman Vihar) and 3 (Mianwali Colony), respectively. They have been booked under Sections 32 and 134 of Representation of People Act.

The Haryana Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Srikant Walgad said the accused were booked following a preliminary inquiry by Gurgaon Electoral Registering Officer Om Prakash.

“The Form-6 (applications required for inclusion of names in the electoral rolls) collected by these officers have been taken into possession and the District Election Office has initiated an inquiry to ascertain facts,” an official spokesman said.

Walgad said, “A proper system to detect and delete names of bogus voters was in place in the state.” The entire voting process on April 10 would be video-graphed to eliminate any chances of bogus voting, he added.

On reports of people using various methods to remove ink mark from their fingers so that they could vote multiple times, he said the commission had procured high-quality ink to check such cases.
