People won't tolerate poor governance: Pranab Mukherjee New Delhi, March 31 (ANI): President Pranab Mukherjee said people would no longer tolerate non-transparent and unresponsive administration, while inaugurating diamond jubilee celebrations of Indian Institute of Public Administration (IIPA) in New Delhi. Mukherjee said democracy is the soul and the core of nation-building and no meaningful growth or governance could be achieved without the preservation and nurturing of basic grid of polity. Mukherjee further stressed that good governance encompasses rule of law, participatory decision-making structure, transparency, accountability, responsiveness, equity and inclusiveness as the country's governance has to run on these principles.
NHRC directs Delhi Police to take action against Somnath Bharti New Delhi, March 31 (ANI): In what can invite more trouble for Arvind Kejriwal and AAP, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) on Monday directed the Delhi Police to take action against former Delhi Law Minister Somnath Bharti for leading a midnight raid in New Delhi's Khirki Extension. Activist-lawyer Shehzad Poonawala, who had petitioned against AAP leader Bharti in connection with the case, welcomed the move and said that it is now to witness if Kejriwal will apologize and will sack Bharti from the party or not.
SC commutes Bhullar’s death sentence to life imprisonment New Delhi, March 31 (ANI): The Supreme Court on Monday commuted the death sentence of Devinderpal Singh Bhullar, who was convicted for a 1993 blast in Delhi, to life imprisonment. The central government has earlier said that it has no objection on the same. The lawyer in the case said that the reason for the development is the delay in the case and also mental health of Bhullar. In January, the court had stopped Bhullar's execution and had sought a medical report on his mental health.
