“Indian democracy faces its toughest challenge as the political war this time is not between parties but secularism and fundamentalism. We seek your support to defeat the people who wish to rule this country on principals of staunch bias,” said UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi in a veiled attack on Modi at a rally at Kherla village here today.

Accusing the BJP of shedding crocodile tears to hide their misdoings, she claimed that while the Congress was fighting for the people, the BJP or Modi were working for getting the PM’s seat. “They have nothing else to talk about other than getting the chair of PM. They pose the biggest danger to secularism and if they win the nation shall face its worst defeat. The Congress does not care what is our religion, language, place of birth or to which caste we belong to. We will fight for a country which is secular and where it is important that we all are Indians,” she said.

“The Congress has done what nobody even thought for Mewat. Be it giving backward region status, providing drinking water facilities or developing separate cadre for teachers and doctors. Keep aside the caste and religion and vote for development,” urged Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, who accompanied Gandhi.

The much-awaited rally, however, failed to create any buzz. Enthusiasm among those present was palpably missing as no exciting dreams were offered to the hundreds who sat there.

While people of the Meo heartland waited for their leaders to speak about the status of pending projects, the efforts of the leaders were completely dedicated to counter the reported “Modi wave” and preach secularism. The people from the nearby areas had gathered for the rally around 10:30 am. The Congress president was late by two hours. Till then the local representatives of the Congress addressed the gathering one by one highlighting how unfaithful Rao Inderjeet had been to them.
