Tribune News Service

Rampura (Bathinda), March 1
A mob protesting the death of two kanwarias went on rampage and set ablaze police vehicles in the Rampura area of Bathinda on Saturday.

Tempers flared up after the body of Radhey Sham, an accident victim, was brought to Bathinda from Chandigarh.

The protesters assembled on Barnala road and raised slogans against the government. There were heated arguments between the protesters and Bathinda Deputy Commissioner KK Yadav. The mob then torched vehicles and pelted police personnel with stones.

A group of kanwarias was returning from Haridwar on foot when four of their members were hit by a speeding truck at Rampura on Thursday.

While two persons died on the spot, the remaining two were admitted to a hospital with serious injuries. One of the injured, Radhey Shyam, was shifted to the PGI, Chandigarh, where he died. The condition of the fourth is stable.
