EPFO chief, others in dock over rape bid

Haryana cadre IAS officer Krishan Kumar Jalan, currently on deputation and posted as the Central Provident Fund Commissioner (CPFC) of the Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO), and some Karnal-based PF officials have been booked for allegedly making an attempt to rape a woman of Panipat.

Police spokesman Yudhvir Malik said an FIR under Sections 354 (use of force to outrage modesty of a woman), 376 (rape), 511 (attempt to commit an offence punishable with life term etc) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the IPC has been registered against Jalan and some Karnal-based PF officials, including Surat Singh, NK Singh, Yogesh Sharma, MK Sharma, Sanjay Sharma and Jitender Bansal, at the Panipat city police station on the basis of a complaint by the woman’s husband.

The complainant, a resident of New Sukhdev Nagar, alleged that some Karnal-based PF officials came to his office on August 27 last year. They molested his 47-year-old wife and also tried to rape her. They ran away when the woman raised the alarm.

The complainant said he forwarded a complaint to Jalan for initiating action against the “erring” officials, but he did not take any action.

The complainant had allegedly levelled these allegations against PF officials.

The allegations

  • Some Karnal-based PF officials came to his office of a resident of New Sukhdev Nagar in Panipat on August 27, 2013, and tried to rape his wife
  • The woman’s husband complained to EPFO’s Central Provident Fund Commissioner (CPFC) Krishan Kumar Jalan, but he did not take any action
