Uproarious scenes were witnessed in both the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha soon as the members met for the day with MPs creating a furore over the proposed Telangana formation, revelation of UK’s role in Operation Bluestar, death of Arunachal student Nido Taniam in Delhi last week, clean chit to Army personnel in the Pathribal encounter in Kashmir and the arrest of Tamil fishermen by the Sri Lankan navy.

The highlight of the day in the Lok Sabha was the notice of no trust given by Sabbam Hari, Congress MP from Seemandhra, and M Venugopala Reddy of the Telugu Desam Party. Both were protesting the government decision to form a separate state of Telangana. The Speaker could not take up the notices due to the din and said she could not count 50 members whose support was required to carry the notice.

The commotion continued with TRS members K Chandrashekhar Rao and Vijaya Shanthi raising pro-Telangana slogans and YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, YSR Congress chief, standing with his supporters in the well, showing anti-Telangana placards.

Also in the well were Akali MPs protesting former PM Indira Gandhi’s move to seek British advice in Operation Bluestar. The DMK and the AIADMK members were seen protesting the arrest of Tamil fishermen in both houses.

Importantly, in the Upper House, Chairman Hamid Ansari allowed a discussion on the recent death of Nido Taniam after members sought it but the din ensured the same did not happen leading to sharp reactions from Ansari, “Can we please respect the dead at least,” he said but to no avail.

Amid continuing uproar both Houses were first adjourned till noon and then for the day.
