Political parties demand raise in expense limit for
Parliament polls
New Delhi, February 5 (ANI): senior BJP leader Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi
said most of the political parties had urged the Election Commission to raise the expenditure limit for the upcoming
Parliament polls in a meeting with the panel. The BJP argued that steep inflation had made the current slab of rupees 1.6 million to four million infeasible. However, Delhi's ruling Aam Aadmi Party
(AAP) said the party was happy with the current limits. The Election Commission of India had called the meeting to take the opinions of the parties before it
came out with details of the Parliament polls due in April-May.
Pro and anti-Telangana supporters clash outside Andhra Bhawan in Delhi
New Delhi, February 05 (ANI): Scores of pro and anti-Telangana protesters broke into a scuffle outside Andhra Bhawan in New Delhi
today over the Telangana Bill, which is expected to be tabled in the current session of the Parliament
that has began today. Supporters from both sides were holding the protests outside the Andhra Bhawan when the scuffle began. The Centre is determined to introduce the
Bill in the Parliament. After Cabinet's clearance, the Bill will be sent to the President
of India and then brought to the Parliament for a debate and vote. However, the final session of Parliament got off to a noisy start today as Seemandhra and Telangana MPs sparred with each other on the floor of
both the Houses of the Parliament as soon as they assembled for the day, forcing
adjournment for an hour.
Tiger Woods makes maiden appearance at a private event in India
New Delhi, February 5 (ANI): World's number one ranked golfer Tiger Woods, on his maiden visit to India, participated in an exhibition match at the Delhi Golf Club (DGC). Though organizers wanted to keep the exclusive event under a veil of secrecy, Indian fans thronged the venue to watch the legendary golfer play a round with a select band of guests. Meanwhile, there are media speculations that Woods' appearance at the heavily guarded event is reported to be worth over a million dollars. Woods also met Indian cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar after arriving in New Delhi and he later tweeted that he
had found Tendulkar quite "cool".
