Hisar SAI coach booked for sexual harassment
Tribune News Service

Hisar, February 1
A coach at the Sports Authority of India’s centre in Haryana Agriculture University was today booked for sexually harassing seven female wrestlers. The coach has denied the allegations.

Coach Satbir Singh has been booked under Section 354 (outraging the modesty) of the Indian Penal Code and under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

A police team visited the SAI centre and recorded the statements of the girls and the coach. Sources said seven female wrestlers aged between 14 and 18 years had lodged a complaint yesterday accusing the coach of physically harassing them.

“The coach had been touching us inappropriately on the pretext of practice. He even kissed some of the girls. He often used filthy language and commented on our dress,” a complainant claimed. Satbir Singh denied the allegations and said he had removed some wrestlers from the centre based on their poor performance and indiscipline.

The charge

  • Seven female wrestlers have accused their coach of sexually harassing them
  • The wrestlers, aged between 14 and 18 years, are among 15 undergoing training at the SAI’s Hisar centre
  • The girls approached the police after the coach expelled one of them
