Sirsa, January 31
A man first allegedly raped his former live-in partner and then poured acid on her at Sirsa’s Rania town on Thursday.

The victim received acid burns on her face, arms and a knee and she was shifted to the Sirsa General Hospital. The police have booked Ramesh Kumar of Dhani Shaminder Singh village for rape, assault and criminal intimidation and efforts were on to arrest him.

The victim, who had lost her husband eight years ago, had been living with her eight-year-old son in a rented accommodation. Before this, she was living with Ramesh for a year, but parted ways.

She said Ramesh came to her house when she was alone. After allegedly raping her, he tried to force her to drink the acid he had brought with him. When she resisted, he threw the acid on her.

The police have recorded the woman’s statement before a woman lawyer.
