Haryana staff stir effect: Blackouts, dry taps Chandigarh, January 22 Staff strike led to protests by residents in some areas. Residents accused the state government and agitating employees of ignoring basic needs of the public. An Assistant Sub-Inspector was reportedly injured in an attack by protesters near Mirjapur village in Kurukshetra district. Reports from Sirsa, Ellenabad, Rania, Dabwali and Kalanwali towns said there was a complete blackout in several areas. Tohana and Bhattu towns in Fatehabad district witnessed a complete blackout as electricity department officials did not attend to any complaint after the power supply got disrupted due to heavy rain in the afternoon. Restive villagers blocked roads at Jandli and Chobara villages and at many other places. In Rohtak, residents protesting disruption of water and electricity supply tried to gherao the residence of Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, but they were prevented from marching ahead beyond a point. Some persons were injured in a scuffle between protesters and the police. A report from Faridabad said the police had registered 10 cases of dereliction of duty against the striking staff posted in the Faridabad and Palwal areas. Majority of the 20,000 employees of various departments in the district remained on strike. It is almost after two decades that the state is witnessing a staff strike of this intensity.
