Kang rises in revolt against Bajwa
Tribune News Service

Chandigarh, December 31
With Congress MLA and three-time former minister Jagmohan Singh Kang raising the banner of revolt against Punjab Pradesh Congress president Partap Singh Bajwa, the crisis in the Punjab unit of the party further deepened today. Kang alleged Bajwa had reduced the party to a private limited company.

Jagmohan Kang has offered to resign from the post of the general secretary, which, he said, was “in total disregard to my merit and seniority in the party that I have been serving for the past 39 years”.

Kang said he was one of the main contenders for the post of Punjab Pradesh Congress president, but Bajwa deliberately conspired to place him at a junior position. Bajwa did this just to satisfy his ego and serve his mean political ends, he alleged. “He sees me as a threat,” he said.

Rajya Sabha member and former Union Minister Ashwani Kumar had earlier lambasted Bajwa alleging that he had inducted his loyalists in the party, ignoring senior Congress leaders.

There is already a revolt in the Ropar unit of the party.

Punjab Mahila Congress chief Malti Thapar had earlier shot off a letter to AICC general secretary Rahul Gandhi, objecting to the way “women leaders had been ignored in the PPCC list”.

Kang said, “I always considered him like my younger brother, but he has not only betrayed me, but also exposed his double standards. So, I have been compelled to take this extreme step with a heavy heart in the best interest of the party.”

“I want to categorically remind arrogant Bajwa that he is heading the pradesh unit of the party and not Partap Singh Bajwa Private Limited Company. By making me general secretary, he has intentionally humiliated me. Many defectors and new entrants to the party have been given undue recognition in the new set-up, whereas many genuine and deserving workers and leaders with a long standing in the party have been left out or not appropriately adjusted due to Bajwa’s misrepresentation of the facts to the Congress high command. As a result of this, there is a resentment among the party rank and file.” “I will tender my resignation as the general secretary of the PPC after meeting the party high command,” he said.

Bajwa could not be contacted for comments.
