Hisar hits season’s low of -0.8°C

Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and most parts of Punjab and Haryana continued to reel under chilly conditions with night temperatures plummeting to season’s low of -17.3°C in Leh in the Ladakh region and -0.8°C in Hisar.

In Haryana, Narnaul recorded a low of 0.1°C, six below normal, while Bhiwani experienced severe chill recording a minimum of 1.4°C. Ambala recorded a low of 6.3 °C, an official of the MeT Department said today.

In Punjab, Adampur in Jalandhar district continued to be the coldest place, recording a low of 0.5°C.

Amritsar shivered at 1.6°C with Patiala and Ludhiana recording minimum temperatures of 5.6°C and 6.2°C, respectively.

In Himachal Pradesh, the minimum temperature hovered around freezing point at most places.

Keylong and Kalpa areas in tribal Lahaul and Spiti and Kinnaur districts recorded lows of -9.7 °C and -5 °C, respectively.

Bitter cold swept Manali with the minimum settling at 2.4 °C as Bhuntar reeled at a low of -0.1 °C.

In Jammu and Kashmir, mercury fell from -14.9°C in Leh yesterday to record the coldest night of the season at -17.3°C.

It was the coldest recorded place in the state followed by nearby Kargil town, which recorded a minimum of -16.4°C. This was also the lowest temperature in Kargil this season, the official said.

Summer capital Srinagar registered a drop of two degrees in the minimum temperature as the mercury settled at a low of -3.7°C, against -1.9°C the previous night. Qazigund recorded a low of -4.0°C, while hill resort of Pahalgam settled at a low of -7.4°C.

Ski resort of Gulmarg recorded a low of -9.6°C, as compared to -8.2°C the previous night. The minimum in Kokernag, in south Kashmir, settled at -5.2°C last night. Kupwara in north Kashmir registered a low of -3.7°C. — PTI
