Zakia’s plea against CM rejected

Ahmedabad, December 26
Zakia Jafri (R), wife of Ehsan Jafari, in tears after the court verdict in Ahmedabad on Thursday. A metropolitan court today rejected a protest petition filed by Congress former MP’s wife Zakia Jafri against clean chit given to Narendra Modi and others by the Special Investigation Team in a 2002 Gujarat riots case. Metropolitan Magistrate BJ Ganatra told Zakia’s counsel Mihir Desai that her petition had been rejected; and that she had the liberty to approach a higher court.

Snoopgate: Centre orders judicial probe
New Delhi, December 26
Narendra Modi The Centre today instituted a Judicial Commission of Inquiry into physical and electronic surveillance against a woman allegedly involving Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi. The Bharatiya Janata Party called the move “political vindictiveness” indicating it could be challenged in court.

Judges’ appointment panel gets Constitutional status
New Delhi, December 26
Amid demands by jurists and the Opposition led by the BJP, the government today gave a go-ahead to grant constitutional status to a proposed commission for appointment and transfer of judges to the higher judiciary.
