Kishenganga: India’s right upheld
Arbitration court rejects Pakistan objection to diversion of water for power by India in J-K
New Delhi, December 21
The International Court of Arbitration (ICA) has upheld India’s right to divert water from the Kishenganga river for power generation in Jammu and Kashmir. In its final award announced at The Hague last evening, the seven-member court, headed by Stephen M Schwebel, unanimously decided that India must also release a minimum of 9 cumecs of water into the Kishenganga river below the Kishenganga Hydro Electric Project (KHEP) at all times to maintain the environment downstream.

India is hopeful of an early resolution of the ongoing stand-off with the United States over the inhuman treatment meted out to its Deputy Consul General Devyani Khobragade in New York in an alleged visa fraud case last week.

3 Sikh detainees agree to come out on parole

A day after the release of Lal Singh from Nabha jail, the three Sikh detainees —Lakhwinder Singh, Gurmeet Singh and Shamsher Singh — who are lodged in Burail Jail for the past 18 years in the Beant Singh assassination case have finally agreed to come out of jail on parole.
