New Delhi, December 13
India on Friday summoned US Ambassador Nancy Powell to the South Block to register its strong protest over the arrest and 'humiliation'of its Deputy Consul General in New York. Foreign Secretary Sujatha Singh, who returned from the US just last night, summoned the American envoy and told that this kind of behaviour was totally unacceptable to India.

Sujata Singh told Powell that Devyani Khobragade was entitled to diplomatic immunity. However, even basic courtesies were not extended to her. There was absolutely no justification in humiliating her in front of children, said Singh.
