Bride critical after acid attack in Ludhiana salon

Ludhiana, December 7
A 24-year-old bride suffered an acid attack barely hours before her wedding. The incident took place at 8.37 am when the victim, hailing from Barnala, was getting her bridal make-up done from a parlour located in the posh Sarabha Nagar market.

The girl was scheduled to marry a Kolkata-based businessmen in the afternoon at a resort on Pakhowal Road. According to the receptionist at the parlour, a youth, who had covered his face with a piece of cloth, entered the parlour holding a mug full of liquid. Before the receptionist could react, the youth entered the room where the victim was getting her bridal make-up done.

The youth then called the victim’s name, handed over a letter and threw the acid on the girl’s face. The victim’s two attendants and another bride who was sitting on the adjacent seat also suffered burns as the acid also fell on them.

All the four injured were soon rushed to the burns unit of Dayanand Medical College and Hospital.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Harsh Bansal said, “The victim has suffered over 50 per cent burns on her face and upper part of the body. Her condition is stated to be critical. Of the three others who had sustained burns, the other bride was discharged after treatment.”

The DCP said that he had got some clues following which a case was registered under Sections 326-B and 307 of the IPC. He said, “Only one person was involved in the attack. The others kept sitting in the car." Police sources said that attackers came in a beige-coloured car bearing the registration number of Bathinda.

The police have also got hold of the mobile number from which the miscreant was reportedly making threatening calls.

Family sources said a day before wedding, the main suspect had threatened the girl’s family that he would throw acid on her.
