Sankararaman murder case: Kanchi Sankaracharya, 22 others acquitted
Puducherry, November 27 (ANI):
All the accused in the Sankararaman murder case, including Kanchi Shankaracharya Jayendra Saraswati, have been acquitted by the Puducherry principal and district sessions court on Wednesday. The trial ran for over nine years. The court acquitted all the accused saying the complainant failed to support the prosecution. Sankararaman, the manager of the Varadarajaperumal
Temple in Kancheepuram, Tamil Nadu, was allegedly murdered on September 3, 2004,
on the temple premises. Sankararaman had allegedly written several letters to publications claiming that the Kanchi mutt had deteriorated ever since Jayendra Saraswati had taken over. He had also alleged misuse of funds in his letters, some of them to the pontiff himself.
Pak PM breaks ground on nation's largest nuclear power project
Karachi, November 27 (ANI): Pakistan Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif ceremonially broke ground on a $9.59-billion nuclear power complex designed to generate 2200 MW of electricity, state media reported. Pakistan is set to fix the country's ailing energy sector in three years with this plant. Sharif termed the ground breaking of the Project K-2 and K-3
"a proud moment in the energy history of Pakistan". He thanked the Chinese government for extending helpto Pakistan.
P Chidambaram calls for stern action against service tax evaders
Kolkata, November 27 (ANI): Finance Minister P Chidambaram called for stern action against service tax evaders as the country’s tax scheme had met with poor response. Addressing an awareness camp on Voluntary Compliance Encouragement Scheme (VCES) in Kolkata
yesterday, Chidambaram warned the defaulters to pay their taxes or else be ready to face legal action. The finance minister highlighted that the service tax amnesty scheme launched by his ministry
had sought poor response so far. He revealed that thirteen chronic tax evaders
had been arrested so far and the defaulters should not ignore the warning.
