Lucknow, November 27
A Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the Muzaffarnagar riots today chargesheeted five accused in the triple murder at Kawal village on August 27 which had triggered the communal violence resulting in 62 deaths.

In the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate KP Singh, the five accused were chargesheeted under various sections of the IPC. The accused are Mujassim, Muzammil, Nadeem, Jahangir and Furqan. The role of one remaining accused Afzal is still being investigated.

Charges of biased probe and reported release of some accused had earlier angered one community in late August resulting in the calling of a mahapanchayat which led to a horrible bloodbath.

A case had been registered against seven persons, including Shanawaz, who had been on of the victims of the triple murders at Kawal village under Jansath police station of Muzaffarnagar on that fateful day. The clash started reportedly over a minor discord between Shahnawaz with two youths Gaurav and Sachin. In the conflict they killed Shahnawaz . Later they were also lynched by the angry mob in the village.

The incident triggered communal violence and tension which spread like wildfire from Muzaffarnagar to adjoining districts like Shamli, Baghpat, Meerut and Saharanpur and even Hathras.
