A massive row has erupted over Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi’s public statements over the past two days —one that there are intelligence inputs of Pakistani agencies approaching victims of Muzaffarnagar riots to lure them to terrorism and the second charging the Opposition BJP with following the “politics of hate” and “dividing people”.

Cong: BJP spreading ideological terror
New Delhi, October 25
The Congress today went all out against the BJP and the RSS, blaming both outfits for fanning ideological hatred and terror in the country. “The BJP and the RSS are promoting ideological terrorism. This act may not be unconstitutional, but it divides people nevertheless,” Randeep Singh Surjewala, soon-to-be appointed national spokesperson of the party and Haryana Industry Minister said today.

Punjab can’t pay full DA, but slashes property tax

On the one hand, the state government is citing its poor revenue generation as a reason for not granting full dearness allowance (DA) to its five lakh employees, while on the other, it has succumbed to political pressure and reduced tax on commercial property.

2 hurt as Pak targets 17 J-K posts, villages

A man and his son were injured at Pindi Charakan Kalan village in the Arnia sub-sector as Pakistan Rangers pounded 17 Indian posts and hamlets along the 191.5-km-long international border in Jammu and Samba districts overnight, resulting in heavy exchange of fire till early morning today.

CBI arrests Rajasthan ex-minister Nagar
Former Rajasthan Minister Babulal Nagar in Jaipur on Friday. Jaipur, October 25
The Central Bureau of Investigation today arrested Rajasthan’s former minister Babulal Nagar on charges of raping and assaulting a 35-year-old woman last month. Before his arrest, a CBI team examined him for six hours, said Central Bureau of Investigation spokesperson Kanchan Prasad.

EC to vet posts by candidates, parties on Net

The Election Commission today issued instructions bringing under its scanner all content posted by political parties and election candidates on the Internet and social media websites such as Facebook and Twitter. The EC has directed all political parties and candidates to get their advertisements pre-certified by it before issuing them on social media websites.

Power gets dearer by 34 paise in Haryana; 6th hike in 18 months

The Power Department dealt yet another shock to consumers in Haryana by effecting sixth hike in electricity tariff in the past 18 months. The revised tariff will come into effect from October 1.

Administrative authorities can review their decisions: SC
New Delhi, October 25
Administrative authorities, like judiciary which has the power to review its decisions, can also have a re-look and undo earlier "wrong and illegal" orders, the SC has ruled. "If wrong and illegal acts, applying the ...parameters of judicial review can be set aside by the courts, obviously the same mischief can be undone by the administrative authorities themselves by reviewing such an order if found to be ultra vires.
