Legendary singer Manna Dey dies at 94
New Delhi, Oct 24 (ANI): Legendary Indian singer Manna Dey has died at the age of 94 at a Bangalore hospital following a recurring lung infection and renal failure. Born Prabodh Chandra Dey on May 1, 1919, the versatile singer began his playback career in 1943 with the film Tamanna and has sung over 3,500 songs in Hindi, Bengali, Assamese and other regional languages. The Government of India honoured him with the Padma Shri in 1971, the Padma Bhushan in 2005 and the Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 2007. Dey's greatest hits include 'Ae meri zohrajabeen' from the film Waqt (1965), 'Puchho na kaise bitayi raina' (Meri Surat Teri Ankhen, 1963), 'Pyar hua ikrar hua' (Shree 420, 1955) and 'Ek chatur naar' (Padosan, 1968).

Talking to mediapersons in Bangalore, his daughter Shumita Deb who was by his bedside when the end came said that his death is a huge loss for the music industry and people will never get another Manna Dey.

Mumbai, Oct 24 (ANI): Filmmaker Madhur Bhandarkar on Thursday condoled the death of legendary singer Manna Dey. Talking to mediapersons in Mumbai, Bhandarkar said that Manna Dey’s death is a big loss for Indian Cinema. He is no more but his songs will always live. In his career spanning over six decades, Manna Dey gave voice to several soulful songs.

A source close to the actor says, "Aamir is keen to use the music as his caller tune. He usually does not keep any caller tune. However, his excitement over the songs of Dhoom 3 is very high. He is keen to share the music with everyone who reaches out to him and hence the idea of using it as a caller tune."
