The Central Bureau of Investigation on Tuesday Kumar Mangalam Birla registered a case against industrialist Kumar Mangalam Birla, former Coal Secretary PC Parekh and others on charges of criminal conspiracy and misuse of official position over alleged irregularities in the allocation of coal blocks of Talabira II and Talabira III in Odisha eight years ago.

Talks with Pak vital for foiling terror forces’ plan: NSA

Justifying its continued attempts to engage with Islamabad, India on Tuesday said not holding talks with the neighbouring country would amount to falling into the trap of terrorists and their sponsors in the Pakistani establishment.

Infuriated over harvesting of crop by rival group, villagers go on rampage

A dispute over land consolidation in the Gharonda block of Karnal district turned violent in Lalupura village on Tuesday, with women of five villages going on a rampage over harvesting of crop by the other group, which claims to be the owner of the land.

Detainee’s death sparks protest in Ambala
Ambala, October 15
Two dalit youths were picked by the Haryana police late last night and taken to a police post, where they were kept in illegal confinement. While the body of one of them was found near the railway track in the morning, the whereabouts of the other are not known.

Jawan killed in Pak firing in Poonch

An Army jawan was killed today when he was hit by a mortar shell as Pakistani troops opened heavy fire in the Bhimber Gali sector along the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch district.

Punjab Govt tweaking Centre’s food security scheme
Chandigarh, October 15
The Parkash Singh Badal-led government is tweaking the National Food Security Programme in such a manner that when implemented, the SAD-BJP alliance reaps its political benefits in entirety. Sources said a number of informal meetings of officials had been held to discuss various proposals. But none had been finalised as yet. During the last Cabinet meeting, a Group of Ministers was set up under the chairmanship of Deputy CM Sukhbir Singh to look into the issue.
